We had to clean the oil burner this weekend because it was getting that thick, smoky smell whenever it ran. It's one of those jobs you put off, but once you scrape out the old soot and carbon buildup from the combustion chamber and wipe down the nozzle assembly, it burns way cleaner and quieter. Definitely worth the messy hour with gloves and rags.
